Get ready for your swim to take a high-tech turn. SwimSense is building a performance monitor for swimmers – automatically have your laps, strokes, distance and speed captured. In the meantime, help SwimSense create a
device that meets your needs by completing their survey and receive a great discount on your next swim product purchase.
Tired of counting laps during those long intervals and wondering how your stroke rate changed throughout your
swim workout? Wouldn’t it be great to have a device that knew exactly how far you swam for every workout? Using the same sensor technology found in Apple’s iPhone and Nintendo’s Wii controller, SwimSense is building the first performance monitor for swimmers.
The Swim Performance Monitor (SPM) will automatically count your laps and strokes, and calculate speed and distance. With this information, you will be able to track how your stroke rate and pace change throughout and across workouts. With the ability to upload your data to TrainingPeaks.com and BeginnerTriathlete.com, you will be able to store and track your performance over time – allowing you and your coach to better assess and tune your training program for optimal performance. With an initial (beta) release planned for later this year on Apple’s iPod Touch (SPM-Mobile), you will be able to capture, analyze and track your swimming performance the same way you track your bike and run.
Here are the core features of the SPM:
- Automatically keeps track of lap count
- Calculates total distance
- Calculates average pace (for example, time/100yards)
- Automatically counts number of strokes per length
- Supports standard stopwatch capabilities, including starting and stopping of workouts and unlimited intervals
- Provides easy viewing of all of the above workout information directly on the device
- Integrates with TrainingPeaks and BeginnerTriathlete to provide more detailed analysis of workout information and integration with your other sports
