Hello and welcome to our swimming website, we are very keen swimmers and aim to make this blog as interesting and useful as we can.
A bit about us:
Holly: A big sister (aged 14)
Olivia: A little sister (aged 13)
Basically we are sisters!
We are competitive swimmers and we swim for a club. Olivia trains 5 times a week and I train 6 times. We swim each lesson for about 1 hour and a half. We have been swimming since the age of 4 and we are both from England.
We have both competed in an international gala, in Germany representing England, I (Olivia) got an 3rd place in my individual 200m backstroke race and got a bronze german metal. Holly and her relay team also got a 3rd place in her I.M relay also receiving a bronze medal. (In the I.M Holly was swimming Backstroke.)
As you have probably guessed both our best strokes are backstroke and have achieved many trophy’s, medals and titles.
I just thought I would show you a recent picture of us at an aquathon. Olivia and I entered into The Clash Of the Tritons on the 13/08/2011. We swam 250m (10 Lengths) and a 2k run. I (Holly) was the fastest swimmer there but came 7th overall. Olivia also did extremely well. We all got a goody bag and t-shirt. It was extremely well organised and a really fun but fierce competition to take part in.
The photo below is of some of our Medals:
Here is the fisrt trophy my sister and I won (we both got the award):
In July 2009, our swimming club all went to Germany to represent the UK in a swimming competition.
Here is some pictures from our 3-day swimming adventure:
Here is Olivia’s report on Germany 2009:
On the 28th of May 2009, I went along with my swimming club, Erith District Swimming Club (EDSC) to Neheim-Husten, in Germany, to compete in an international three day swimming gala.
There were 39 different clubs competing from many different countries including Germany, Belgium, Scotland, Nigeria, Romania and of course EDSC from England. We were the only club representing England. It was a really great experience in Germany as I had never been to the country or swam in an outdoor fifty meter pool before. In one of my races I came 3rd in the 200 meters Backstroke; I received a bronze medal with the German flag, which I will treasure for ever.My next best souvenir (And my best buy) is my T-Shirt I bought with the names of all the swimmers that competed in the three day gala. This was eight Euros (£8.00). The best memory I have is of the parade with all the different countries. We all had our faces painted with the Union Jack and wore our English flag, we then marched with a band as they were beating their giant drums and playing their trumpet. We all released red helium balloons high in to the air. At the end of the last day everyone swapped club hats, and then in the evening we had a fantastic party.
The worst two things were; the thirteen hour coach journey especially on the way home, on one of the hottest days of the year with no air conditioning, which made my sister and I feel really ill. Also the food.
The food! Well what can I say, apart from it was awful even by my standard, I thought my mum was bad burning everything but compared to German food my mum could be a chef. I never tasted anything like this ever before. On my first day it was green curry, to be honest with you I hated curry but green… German… curry… it was my nightmare. The next day at the pool, I was absolutely starving, as it came close to the end of the day I knew what was coming, I was not going to eat another plate of green curry, no way. There was a chip stall on pool side, so I bought a plate of chips, which were really tasty and yummy. They were one Euro and twenty cent. (£1.20). I also bought an ice cream from the ice cream van, the man started talking to me in German and I was really confused, so I said “English.” In my best German accent, I think he understood, he pointed to a board with a list of all the ice creams he sold. I said small cone, he pulled out a small cone and I nodded, he then said to me “floveior”, I guessed this meant what flavour so I pointed to a colour pink, then “Hey presto” I got a small strawberry cone ice cream. The ice cream was ninety cents. (90p.)
When I go Germany next year I will be able to ask of the correct flavor ice cream instead of pointing to whatever colour, as I am learning German at school.
We also made the headlines in our local newspaper.

Here is what it said:
German success for Erith squad
- 4:53pm Monday 29th June 2009
ERITH & District Swimming Club travelled to the Bexley’s German twin town of Neheim Hüsten to take part in the 38th international competition hosted by SV Neptun SC.
The competition took place in a 50m outdoor pool set in the forest and with Erith the only club representatives from England, the team flew the flag with pride.
There were teams representing Holland, Belgium, Romania and Nigeria in addition to several teams from Germany.
After two days of competition, Erith finished with 17 medals while 41 others achieved a top six placing.
There were numerous excellent performances with many swimmers producing personal best times.
Ashton Middleton led the way with a gold medal in the 400m freestyle, followed by Emily White, Conor Middleton and Anthony Noonan, who all collected both a silver and bronze.
Other medal winners included Caitlin Colman, Alix Blis, Olivia Fryett, Rebecca Gravell, Chloe Hobbs and Lily Osborne.
There was a silver and bronze apiece for both the junior boys’ and girls’ relay squads.
The boys’ squad included Stuart Cunningham, Anthony Noonan, George Leigh, Daniel Bassett, Jack Capstick and Toluwa Ajanaku.
Lauren Frape, Ashton Middleton, Jade Hughes, Lily Gardner, Holly Fryett and Alix Bliss made up the girls’ squad.
Club chairman John Burdett said: “This is a great experience for the young swimmers and one that as a club we look forward to taking part in.”
The Erith squad are pictured in Germany

My Aquathlon….
On the 4th July 2010 Holly and I competed in the London youth games at Crystal palace. I had to swim 200 meters then run a further 1 mile.
My Mum, Dad, Sister and I arrived at Crystal Palace at 11:20 am. We walked over to the Bexley tent where I meet all my friends which I had been training with the past few weeks. It had all boiled down to this race, hours of intense training, running up and down the hill at Hall place, all for this one race! As my race drew nearer the tension built……….
After I had got changed into my swimming costume I was handed an envelope by my swimming coach, Barry. It contained a yellow wrist band with the number nine on it with a black marker, a square piece of paper also with the number nine on it, four pins to fasten my number on my t-shirt, a timing chip and a wrist/ankle band to connect the chip to.
“All year sevens competing in the 2010 Aquathlon make there way to the pool please.”
A man announced over the microphone. My heart pounded!
My number was called; I plunged into the ice cold water, a shiver went down my spine!
“5 seconds remaining, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1, GO!”
The man bellowed.
I pushed of the wall, full of nerves and determination ready to take on what ever came my way.
When I had completed my 200 meters I was shattered! I had been dreading the next part of my aquathlon for weeks…..
I pulled myself out of the pool and struggled outside where I had to across a path covered in stones and grit. As each tiny stone digged into the sole of my foot I shrieked in pure agony!
I braced myself for the 90˚ hill that I was approaching…….
As I drew closer to the hill I grew more exhausted, I was completely drained, how could I cope?
I trekked up the steep hill, I was close to braking point! My arms and legs were shaking, they was as cold as ice! I felt as if my feet in my soggy wet trainers were about to fall off as my toes had gone numb, I could not continue with that much pain!
Just as I though things could not be any worse, a girl called Sophie ran straight pass me, she could not beat me, do not ask me why, I would not let her! I ran as fast as I could after her (please bear in mind this was up a hill) I charged passed her, my tummy full with fire! I had done it! I over took Sophie and reached the top of the hill! I was all down hill now, easy!
As I ran down the hill I heard Sophie let out a desperate cry for help, the exhaustion got to her and she burst out crying. To be honest I felt the same but I had to carry on……
Soon after I caught a glimpse of the giant infallible orange tunnel with the word FINISH written on the top. I had longed to see those words…………
My time………
It took me 5 minutes to swim 200 meters and complete my transition and then a further 5.07 to run 1km.

Hi Riva,
I am doing Grade 5 at Christmas!!! My only advice is to keep practising your clarinet and never give up when you are struggling, because you will get there in the end. You are a very fast breaststroker!!! You must have a Kent Counrty ASA qualifying time….. Good Luck in your future of swimming and playing the clarinet and come back to visit our website too. Thanks for your comment, it means a lot. Well Done!
